Experiment design is the last book by swiss designer Igildo G. Biesele. His two other previous books were mainly focused on graphic design education in the best school around the world. Ending the serie with an experimental book is quite strange as most of the student projects shown in Graphic design International & Graphic design education are using experimental methods.

As the table of contents listed above, the approach is very wide and interesting. But in a deeper look, some can be disapointed by two points:

  1. The work are mostly out of the swiss traditional approach: objectivity, clearness and the minimal style are exploded in a post-modern aesthetic.
  2. The word Experiment is sometime an ‘out of boundaries’ of comercial art.

In another way, most of the abstract pieces of Art demonstrates the same interest as swiss concrete painting: minimal and mathematical based composition, great focus on optical & color effects. Another plus is the highlight on early computer possibilities, applied on picture rendering and video manipulation.
